The 2008 Area 4 Venturing Quest event
will be held on April 11-13,
2008 at the Moraine Trails Council's Camp Bucoco
More
Information
Camp Bucoco is located along the Slippery Rock Creek in Butler
County, Pennsylvania -- about 2 miles from Slippery Rock
University.
The Area 4 Venturing Quest uses an exciting social atmosphere,
including 2 parties, and a wide variety of activity choices to
create
a fun environment for Venturers to get together and make new
friends,
try new things, and see some of the potential that the Venturing
program has to offer. Our goal is for Quest participants to
become
energized and inspired. We will provide opportunities for them
to
take home new skill(s), useful information, and new connection(s)
that they can use to help themselves, their crew, or others in
their
community. The Area 4 Quest is for all Venturers and Sea Scouts,
not
just outdoor-oriented crews.
While the focus is on the young adults, there will also be fun,
fellowship, and valuable opportunities for advisors too!
The AVOA (Area Venturing Officers Association) is made of the
Venturing (youth) representatives of the councils in our area
and the
cabinet officers elected by them. This is an extension of the
leadership opportunities that begin in each crew, and continue
through your council VOA/TLC, and ultimately the area, regional
and
national Venturing cabinets. The Area 4 AVOA exists to promote
Venturing, support the local council VOA/TLC's, and conduct the
annual Quest. During each Quest the annual meeting and elections
are
held. Serving on the AVOA is fun, fulfilling, and a great way to
hone
social and leadership skills.
Details about the theme and program activities will be announced
via
the Area 4 AVOA web site, email and newsletters.
Registration details will become available in late December or
early
January via the same sources.
You will want to register early as we only have room for 400
people!
This event is open to all Venturers and Sea Scouts. Come as a
crew or
as part of a district or council VOA/TLC contingent!
We are working hard to hold cost at $45 per person (this
includes
program, food, shelter, event patch, and event t-shirt).
Please note that this event is focused on the experience, not on
completing award requirements.
There will also be many opportunities for learning and acquiring
information, but few will be in a classroom or lecture format.
Most activities will be an open format that allow participants
to
choose what they want to attend and when they want to go.
There will be a variety of "traditional" offerings,
like the climbing
wall/cope and shooting (archery, rifle, shotgun, and black
powder).
In addition there will be a wide variety of challenging and fun
choices as well as some interesting and unique activities.
While most participants will sleep outdoors in personal/crew
provided
tents there will be a limited amount of cabin space available.
Meals and snacks are served in the camp Dining Hall.
Please watch the Area 4 AVOA web site for updates and to view
