REGIONAL VENTURING KEY 3

KYLA MAHONEY
NORTHEAST REGION VENTURING PRESIDENT

Serving as the 2008-2009 Northeast Region Venturing President is Kyla Mahoney of Nashua Valley Council.  Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help youth mature and prepare them to become responsible adults.  For Kyla, the Venturing program has done just that!  The positive influence of this program has given her the courage, strength, and confidence necessary to achieve even her greatest future achievements.  Ever since Kyla was four-years-old, she has wanted to be a Boy Scout like her older brother, Travis. Kyla finally got her chance to participate in high adventure activities when she heard about Venturing.  She has been a member of Littleton Venturing Crew 486 since it was established in July of 2004.  Kyla was the Vice President of Programs from October of 2004 to October of 2005.  During the election in 2005, she was elected as crew president and withheld this position until elections in April, 2008.  Kyla also supported the establishment of her Council’s VOA.  After her successful terms as president, she decided to share her positive experiences, but most importantly, learn from others. Venturing has been a positive life changing experience for her and she is honored to have been chosen to undergo a challenging and rewarding position.

On May 17, 2007, Kyla received the Council Venturing Leadership Award.  She was a strong candidate for the award because of her fantastic source of enthusiasm, being an effective trainer, and her involvement in many other organizations outside of the BSA. Receiving this award meant a lot to Kyla because it solidified everything she had been working hard for.  Being recognized gave her a boost of confidence and proved that she is making a difference.

Kyla is a graduate of North Middlesex Regional High School as a member of the class of 2008.  In high school, she participated in many clubs and organizations.  She is a former member of the debate team, drama club, Leo’s club, and participated on the track team, soccer team, and softball team.  She is also the founder of the high school’s Dance Dance Revolution club.  She received the Prudential Spirit of Community Award during her senior year in recognition of her community services.  Kyla is dedicated to her academic performance as well as her involvement within the school.

Kyla has been a member of 4H since 2000.  She is a member of the 4H Junior Fair Directors Club and the 4H Aviculture Club.  She has held multiple leadership positions in both as the club historian and committee member.  The Junior Fair Directors is a leadership club with many responsibilities throughout the annual 4H fair in August.  As a senior 4Her, Kyla will be ageing out this August and plans to continue helping out as a volunteer.

Kyla will be attending Middlesex Community College as a freshman in September, 2008 to study Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement.  She has a strong, active interest in her community and plans to continue in the years to come.  Since she was in the sixth grade she has wanted a career in Law Enforcement.  Kyla continuously proves herself in many ways of her abilities to achieve her goals.

Kyla is the Captain of the Brookline, NH Law Enforcement Explorers Post 7397 of the Daniel Webster Council.  She also participated in the internship program during the second semester of her senior year of high school.  Furthermore, she graduated from the Student Trooper Program (a paramilitary academy) at the Massachusetts State Police barracks on July 29, 2005.  She has dedicated herself to her community and plans to continue making a positive difference.

The Northeast Region Venturing President serves as the youth representative to the Northeast Region Venturing Committee.  As a member of the Regional Committee, he or she attends Regional Executive Board meetings, BSA National meetings, and events.  In addition, the President represents the Northeast Region as a member of the National Venturing Cabinet made up of all 4 Regional Presidents, the National President, and National Boatswain.  The cabinet gives a youth voice to the Venturing Program on a national level with the National President a member of the National Executive Board.  The President works with the Area  and Council Venturing Presidents to support their programs.
